Populated since the Neolithic Age, remains have been found in the Dehesilla cave (scrapers, axes, etc.).The passing through of the Romans in these lands has left us the remains of the city of Calduba.

The origins of the current village are due to the initiative of a rich trader, D.Domingo López de Carvajal, who decided to create a new village. It was for that reason that in 1757 he purchased the pastures of Algar and Mesa de Sotogordo, and in 1766 he asked the government for permission to install 90 settlers in these lands. The project was definitively passed by Royal Order in 1773. It began to be populated in1776, starting with the formation of its urban development according to rationalist outlines of the middle of the XVIII century (uniform blocks of houses, central square where the most important buildings can be found, etc.).
