On top of its ruins, the Lighthouse and the Castle of Sancti-Petri were built, both in the XIII century. There the musician from Cadiz, Manuel de Falla, conceived the music for his "Atlantis". In 1303, it is donated by Fernando IV to the duke of Medina Sidonia, starting its resettlement and its prosperity by exploiting the riches of its orchards as well as of the sea. In the XVIII century it experiences another period of prosperity thanks to the American trade in the Bay of Cadiz and the settlement of traders on its grounds. Its main riches have always been agriculture, vine growing and the wine business. In 1876, it received the title of city. |
